We sadly report the death at 97 of Cleo Laine, British jazz singer with a beautiful, instantly recognisable voice

And this week, another very sad loss: RIP the towering figure of double-bass player Danny Thompson, who as well as founding Pentangle, played and recorded at various times with Nick Drake, John Martyn, Linda Lewis, Toumani Diabate, Alexis Korner, Tubby Hayes, Norma Waterson, Richard Thompson, David Sylvian, Kate Bush, Bert Jansch, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Kevin Ayers, Paul Weller, Everything But the Girl, and many more. Richard Williams in his blog describes him as ‘the Charlie Haden of British bass players’.
